Cedric Cassimo is a Swiss visual artist currently based in Morges, Switzerland. He is one of only a handful of artists in the world who have mastered the infinitely delicate and poetic art of sand animation, in order to produce live performances on stage. He had the privilege of being introduced to sand animation for film by the art form’s creator, American filmmaker Caroline Leaf, a teacher at the UK’s National Film and Television School. Fascinated by the process, he set to work on live sand animation. He won the challenge with flying colors, and the theatrical world of London’s West End opened up to him, enthralled by his enchanting visual and musical spectacles, blending sand animation with other art forms for the first time.
In 2006, he co-founded the artistic company Lunidea, which produces various multidisciplinary creations, including “The Story of the London Whale” with London’s Leicester Square Theatre. His other show “Insaisis’sable” toured Switzerland during the 2012-2013 season, and audiences and press alike said they were “spellbound”. The following show “Pour l’Amour d’un Stradivarius”, produced by the Théâtre du Jorat in 2014, was also a great success, followed by “Secrets du Petit Prince” which had an international tour as well as an exceptional date at the Auditorium Stravinski in Montreux in aid of Swiss Solidarity in 2019. Also in 2019, “Les Contes de la Nuit”, commissioned by the Centre Georges Pompidou, was presented at the Philharmonie de Paris and the Opéra de Reims.
The exceptional quality of his sand animations, which marry this unclassifiable and poetic art with other forms of visual art, has led him to collaborate with artists such as Bastian Baker, Henri Dès, Barbara Hendricks, Isabelle Boulay, renowned companies such as Omega, Jaeger-Lecoultre, Chopard, Fondation IRP, HSBC, organizations such as the United Nations, Menuhin Festival to name but a few.
Also recognised as a talented tattoo artist, Cedric Cassimo set up his Mosaics Tattoo studio in 2013, which has become a Swiss and international benchmark.
In 2022 he added to his rich career by becoming illustrator and head of the graphics studio for the children’s book ‘Schtinki a boar with a bad temper”
